About
Spider Wood on Slate pairs a branching piece of spider wood with a slate base, so it stands on its own in the tank. The wood is tan and turns darker brown once it has been underwater a while. Every piece is different, and each is hand-picked for good shape. It is safe for plants.
Specs
Type: Natural driftwood on slate · Color: Tan, darkening underwater · Size: 12-18 in · Water: May tint the water with tannins at first
Using It
Rinse it and soak it in water before it goes in to draw out tannins; boiling the wood helps if it fits a pot. Pieces can float at first, so keep it in a bucket of water until it sinks, usually about a day. Set the slate on or under the substrate. Tie moss or small epiphytes to the branches. Shrimp graze the biofilm on the wood and hide among the branches.
