Shrimp Tank Checklist

Everything you need to set up a Neocaridina shrimp tank, in the order you'll need it. Every item links to the part of the Moss & Molt shop that carries it, so you can get the whole tank in one order.

1. Build the tank

  • Aquarium: rimless or rimmed glass tanks.
  • Filter: baby shrimp are tiny, so pick one with a sponge or fine guard on the intake.
  • Heater: keeps the temperature steady. Para-Medic lists the range for each animal.
  • Light: for you to see the shrimp and for the plants to grow.
  • Hardscape: rocks and wood for shrimp to graze on.
  • Plants and moss: moss gives shrimp a surface to graze and gives babies cover.
  • Tools: tweezers, scissors and cleaning gear.

2. Get the water right

  • Test kits: test your water before you buy shrimp. Neocaridina do fine in remineralized RO or tap water when the numbers are in range.
  • Water care: water conditioner for tap water and other water treatments.
  • Cycle the tank first: every tank needs to be cycled, with ammonia reading 0, before any livestock goes in.

3. Add life

Plan it and check it, free
