The Line
Yellow eye on a red body is an uncommon pairing — the yellow eye trait is recessive, and most red stock on the market carries a standard dark eye. Holding both a saturated red body and a clean yellow eye takes selection on two axes at once, with a regular-eye red line running behind it as an outcross source. Every grade below carries the yellow eye. Bred here in Virginia, never resold.
Choose Your Grade
High Grade — solid, opaque red from rostrum to tail with minimal translucency, and clean yellow eyes. The individuals that hold both.
Mid Grade (Sakura) — solid red across the back and sides, with clear or translucent patches on the legs, underside and joints. That's the Sakura standard, not a defect.
Culls — yellow eye reds that missed the grade: patchy or washed-out color and lighter bodies, our choice of individuals. The yellow eye trait at a budget price; they won't breed true to a color standard.
Grade refers to body coverage only. Eyes are yellow and clean in every grade.
What You'll Receive
The grade you choose above, in the quantity you pick, of juvenile to young adult shrimp, unsexed unless noted. Order 5 or more of one grade and we add 1 extra shrimp free, as cover for any loss in transit. The stock count on this page is the most one order can take of that grade. Double-bagged 6x12 leak-proof bag with netting for grip, insulated box, seasonal heat pack, printed drip-acclimation sheet.
A Note on Color
Red deepens with maturity, and females carry more color than males — juveniles will look lighter than the photos. Dark substrate, stable parameters and a varied diet bring reds up. Bare bottoms and swinging GH wash them out.
Water
Ours runs at: temperature 74–76°F · pH 7.1–7.4 · GH 7–8 · KH 2–4 · TDS 190–220.
Neocaridina do well in remineralized RO water or in tap water that falls within these ranges. Test your water before you order, and match GH as closely as you can — it's the swing that kills shrimp, not the value.
For any livestock, the tank should be fully cycled: test it first and make sure ammonia and nitrite both read 0.
Shipping
Ships Monday and Tuesday only, by UPS 2nd Day Air or UPS Next Day Air, with the exact rate shown at checkout. Free 2nd Day Air on orders of $200 or more. We hold during extreme heat or cold and will contact you to reschedule — your shrimp are never shipped into weather that puts them at risk.
Live Arrival Guarantee
Film the unopened bag as you first open it, shrimp visible, within 2 hours of delivery. The bag must be unopened when filming begins. Same guarantee across every grade — cull pricing doesn't mean cull treatment. Coverage depends on the shipping you choose: cash refund on Next Day Air, store credit on 2nd Day Air, and single shrimp are covered on Next Day Air only. See our refund policy for details.
Care Basics
Drip acclimate over 1–2 hours. No copper — check fish medications and plant fertilizers. Keep GH stable. Feed lightly; established biofilm does most of the work.
Keep Them Separate
Yellow eye and orange eye are different mutations. Crossing them loses both. House our yellow eye and orange eye lines in separate tanks.
Tank Mates
Good with: snails (nerite, mystery, rabbit, ramshorn) and Amano shrimp, which can't crossbreed with them. Small, calm fish such as otocinclus, pygmy corydoras and small rasboras usually leave adults alone. Avoid: bettas, gouramis, cichlids, loaches, puffers, crayfish and any fish big enough to fit a shrimp in its mouth. Almost every fish eats shrimplets, so a breeding colony does best in a shrimp-only tank. Other Neocaridina colors will crossbreed with them.
