About
Mopani Wood is a dense, durable African hardwood with a two-tone look: smooth, pale sapwood against dark heartwood, in twisted shapes. It is natural, with no chemicals or additives, and safe for all freshwater tanks.
Specs
Type: Natural hardwood · Color: Pale and dark two-tone · Size: 6-11, 11-16 or 16-20 in · Water: Releases tannins that tint the water and can lower pH
Using It
Rinse it under hot water and scrub it with a clean brush, no soap. Boil it for 1 to 2 hours if it fits a pot, or soak it in a tub weighed down with a rock and change the water every few hours. It's ready when it stays sunk and the water only tints lightly. Its density means it sinks readily and rarely needs anchoring. The wood grows biofilm for shrimp to graze and gives them hiding spots.
