The Plant
The Marble Queen is a sword plant with broad green leaves splashed with white and pale yellow. It is amphibious, so if you never trim it, it will send leaves up and out of the water. It is very hardy and a good pick for beginners.
Plant Care
Type: Sword plant · Origin: North, Central and South America · Height: Up to 24 inches · Light: Low to moderate · CO2: Not required · Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 6.0–7.8
Planting Tips
Plant it in the background of a tank 20 gallons or larger. Cut back the tallest leaves now and then to keep it underwater, and push root tabs near the base, since swords feed through their roots.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Its wide leaves are big grazing surfaces where shrimp pick off biofilm, and the shade under them gives shrimplets a calm place to hide. It grows fine in low light without CO2.
