Needs medium to high light and iron-rich fertiliser to stay red; it grows green and leggy in dim tanks.

The Plant
Ludwigia peruensis, also sold as Ludwigia glandulosa, is a stem plant from the Americas. Grown underwater it forms long, spade-shaped leaves in a strong red. It is easy to keep and tolerates a range of water conditions.

Plant Care
Type: Stem plant · Origin: North, Central and South America · Growth: Fast · Height: Up to 12 inches · Light: Moderate · CO2: Optional, recommended · Temp: 75–82°F · pH: 6.4–7.8

Planting Tips
Group several stems in the midground or background of a tank 15 gallons or larger to add depth. Trim it regularly and replant the cut tops.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
A bright red group makes red, blue or black shrimp easy to spot, and the leaves carry biofilm that shrimplets graze. Quick growth means it uses up nitrate between water changes.
