Fine needle leaves need strong light, regular fertiliser, and ideally CO2 to stay red and full.

The Plant
Ludwigia arcuata is a stem plant with thin, needle-shaped leaves. Once it is growing underwater, the lower stem stays green and the tips turn bright red, and with time the whole stem can go red. It is an easy plant that handles a wide range of water.

Plant Care
Type: Stem plant · Origin: North, Central and South America · Height: Up to 12 inches · Light: Low to moderate · CO2: Optional, recommended · Temp: 75–82°F · pH: 5.7–7.8

Planting Tips
Plant it in the midground or background of a tank 15 gallons or larger. Trim it often to keep it bushy, and press the cut tops into the substrate to start new stems.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The fine, crowded leaves give baby shrimp plenty of places to hide, and every stem grows a coat of biofilm for them to pick at. As it grows it also takes up nitrate from the water.
