The Plant
Jungle Val (Vallisneria americana) is a classic tall background plant with long, ribbon-like leaves in bright green. It is hardy, asks very little, and spreads on its own through runners. Plants usually arrive 7 to 16 inches tall and can top out around 26 inches, often trailing along the surface.

Planting Tips
Plant it along the back of a tank of 10 gallons or more. Bury the roots but leave the crown, where the leaves meet, above the substrate. Pull or replant runners to keep it where you want it.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
A wall of val gives shrimp a huge surface for biofilm and a quiet place to molt. It also pulls nitrate out of the water as it spreads.
