Echinodorus Fancy Twist Pot

The Plant
Echinodorus 'Fancy Twist' is a sword plant with broad green leaves that can pick up copper-colored speckles when light, nutrients and water are dialed in. It's very hardy and makes a good first sword. It is amphibious, so it can also grow above the waterline in shallow setups. This one ships potted.

Planting Tips
Give it room: a tank of 20 gallons or more. Take it out of the pot, bury the roots with the crown just above the substrate, and feed with root tabs, since swords draw most of their food through the roots.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Each wide leaf is a big grazing surface for biofilm, and the rosette shades the substrate below where shrimp like to forage. A large rooted plant also uses up plenty of nitrate.
