Grows in low light with no CO2 and almost nothing eats it. Unpot it and tie it to wood or rock; a buried rhizome rots.

The Plant
Nancon is a rare Anubias barteri cultivar that stays compact, with green, spade-shaped leaves on a sturdy rhizome. It copes with a broad spread of water conditions, so beginners do well with it. Native to Africa and farmed worldwide. This one ships potted.

Plant Care
Type: Rhizome · Origin: Africa · Height: about 4 in. (max 14 in.) · Light: Low to moderate · CO2: Not required · Temp: 75–82°F · pH: 6.8–7.8

Planting Tips
Take it out of the pot, then attach it to rock or decor in the midground of a tank of 10 gallons or more instead of planting it. A buried rhizome can rot, so leave it exposed. Split the rhizome with clean scissors when you want another plant.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Its firm leaves hold biofilm for shrimp to pick at, and it gives shrimplets shade and cover close to the hardscape. Shrimp leave it alone, and it keeps taking up nitrate as it grows.
