Amano Shrimp
Caridina multidentata
The Shrimp
Amano shrimp: a larger, see-through grey shrimp with a dotted side line, famous for eating algae. Grows to about 2 inches. Pick how many above. Photos show typical shrimp, not the exact ones you will get.
Origin
Rivers of Japan and Taiwan. Amanos don't breed in fresh water, so aquarium stock is wild-caught or hatchery-raised.
Care Basics
Hardy: about 68 to 80°F and pH 6.5 to 7.8. A cycled 10-gallon or larger with a lid; they can climb out. Grazes algae and biofilm; add sinking food in a clean tank. Like all shrimp, keep copper out of the tank.
Tank Mates
Peaceful; good with community fish too small to eat them, snails and other shrimp. Bold at feeding time.
