The Plant
Taxiphyllum 'Spiky', a moss from Asia that looks like a larger cousin of Christmas moss. Its deep green shoots branch out into stiff, layered tips. It shows off best on upright surfaces, like wood or the face of a rock, where the branching can be seen.
Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.
Plant Care
Type: Moss
Origin: Asia
Growth rate: Slow
Height: 3 to 10+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Low
CO2: Low
Planting Tips
Tie or glue small pieces to wood or rock. To cover the ground instead, set small tufts on the substrate with a little space between them and let them grow together. It copes with very dim light.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The dense, branching moss catches biofilm and fine food for shrimp to pick through, and baby shrimp can hide deep inside it.
