Demanding: strong light, CO2 and soft, slightly acidic water. Stunts quickly if nutrients run low.

The Plant
Rotala wallichii, a fine-leaved stem plant from Asia whose shoot tips turn red under strong light. It looks best as a big group of stems in the background or midground, and since it can be cut back, it also fits small tanks. It is a demanding plant.

Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.

Plant Care
Origin: Asia
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 10 to 30+ cm (after about two months)
Light: High
CO2: High

Planting Tips
Plant many stems close together. Give it strong light; added CO2 gives growth a clear boost. It does best in soft, slightly acidic water.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Red tips make blue, black and yellow shrimp stand out, and the stems give shrimp plenty of surface to graze.
