Easy in medium light with root tabs. Red-brown leaves colour best in brighter light; stays compact for a sword.

The Plant
Echinodorus 'Reni' is a cultivar and one of the smallest red sword plants. New leaves come in reddish brown to deep beet red, and the rosette spreads about 15 to 25 cm wide. It is easy to keep and fits smaller tanks than most swords.

Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.

Plant Care
Type: Rosette
Origin: Cultivar
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 15 to 30+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Low
CO2: Low

Planting Tips
It will grow in low light, but strong light and plenty of nutrients bring out the deepest red. Give it room in the midground so the rosette can spread.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The broad leaves collect biofilm for shrimp to pick at, and shrimp shelter around its base. The red leaves also make light-colored shrimp stand out.
