Easy in moderate light without CO2. Spreads by runners into a short lawn; root tabs help it fill in.

The Plant
Helanthium bolivianum 'Quadricostatus', once called Echinodorus 'Quadricostatus', is a light green rosette plant from South America. It is often sold as Echinodorus bolivianus var. magdalenensis, so the names can get confusing. Leaves grow 10 to 15 cm long and each rosette spreads 15 to 20 cm wide. In good conditions it sends out runners that spread over the substrate.

Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.

Plant Care
Type: Rosette
Origin: South America
Growth rate: High
Height: 10 to 15+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Low
CO2: Low

Planting Tips
Plant several together; it looks best in a group. Its light green color stands out against darker plants. If the leaves go pale, it is short on micronutrients.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The runners fill in a low, grassy patch that holds biofilm for shrimp to graze and gives shrimplets cover.
