The Plant
Hygro Blue (Hygrophila salicifolia) is a quick-growing stem plant with slender leaves in a blue-green shade that sets it apart from plain green stems. Plants usually arrive 6 to 12 inches tall. They are grown under strong light with CO2 and weekly fertilizer, and shipped free of algae and pest snails.
Plant Care
Type: Stem plant · Growth: Fast · Height: Up to 12 in · Light: Low · CO2: Not required, but recommended · Temp: 75-82°F · pH: 5.8-7.6
Planting Tips
Suited to tanks of 15 gallons and up. Plant stems in small groups toward the back and trim the tops once they near the surface; the cuttings root if replanted.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Fast growers like this use up spare nutrients, which helps keep algae down. Shrimp graze the leaves, and the stems make good cover for young shrimp.
