Easy stem plant that grows in low light without CO2. Trim and replant the tops often; CO2 and fertiliser help it fill in.

The Plant
Hygrophila corymbosa, or green temple plant, is an easy stem plant for the midground or background. Plants usually arrive 6 to 12 inches tall. They are grown under strong light with CO2 and weekly fertilizer, and come free of algae and pest snails.

Plant Care
Type: Stem plant · Height: up to 12 in. · Light: Low · CO2: Not required, but recommended · Temp: 75-82°F · pH: 5.8-7.6

Planting Tips
Plant the stems in the midground or background of a tank of 15 gallons or more, spaced a little apart so light reaches the lower leaves. Trim the tops once they reach the surface and replant the cuttings to fill in.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
As it grows it takes up nitrate between water changes. A group of stems makes a dense green thicket where shrimplets can hide, and the leaves hold biofilm for shrimp to graze.
