The Plant
Hottonia palustris, a stem plant from Europe and Asia. Its curved stems carry fans of bright, light green leaves, and a group fills in as a thick clump. Each stem is about 4 to 6 cm wide and 10 to 30 cm tall. It is an easy choice for beginners.
Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.
Plant Care
Type: Stem plant
Origin: Europe/Asia
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 10 to 20+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Low
CO2: Low
Planting Tips
Use it in the midground, between low foreground plants and tall ones at the back; its light green makes nearby red plants stand out. Cut back long shoots often so it branches from the base and stays bushy and compact.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The dense fans of leaves give shrimp lots of surface to graze and places to hide.
