What These Are
These are culls from our colored eye breeding colonies — shrimp carrying the orange eye or yellow eye trait that didn't meet our body-color standard for the graded line. The Orange Eye tends to hold the most true out of the two options here. Expect patchy color, reds, blues, blacks, and wild coloration, lighter bodies, uneven saturation, and some translucency.
What they do have is the orange eye or yellow eye and our genetics, at a fraction of graded price.
Pick Your Eye
Orange Eye — culls from our Orange Eye Blue Demon colonies.
Yellow Eye — culls from our Yellow Eye Red program.
These are the same culls offered under the Culls grade on our Blue Demon and Red Body listings — one tank each, so stock is shared across listings.
Who These Are For
Good for planted display tanks, first colonies, grow-out projects, and anyone who wants orange eye or yellow eye stock without paying for show-grade color. Also a reasonable starting point if you want to do your own selection work — the trait is there, the culling is up to you.
Who These Aren't For
If you want consistent, predictable color, buy the graded line. Culls will not breed true to a standard, and offspring will vary widely. We're telling you this up front rather than after you order.
What You'll Receive
The eye you choose above, in the quantity you pick, of mixed-grade juvenile to young adult shrimp, unsexed, our choice of individuals. Order 5 or more of one eye and we add 1 extra shrimp free, as cover for any loss in transit. The stock count on this page is the most one order can take. Double-bagged 6x12 leak-proof bag with netting, insulated box, seasonal heat pack, printed drip-acclimation sheet.
Water
Ours runs at: temperature 74–76°F · pH 7.1–7.4 · GH 7–8 · KH 2–4 · TDS 190–220.
Neocaridina do well in remineralized RO water or in tap water that falls within these ranges. Test your water before you order, and match GH as closely as you can — it's the swing that kills shrimp, not the value.
For any livestock, the tank should be fully cycled: test it first and make sure ammonia and nitrite both read 0.
Shipping
Ships Monday and Tuesday only, by UPS 2nd Day Air or UPS Next Day Air, with the exact rate shown at checkout. Free 2nd Day Air on orders of $200 or more. We hold during extreme heat or cold and will contact you to reschedule.
Live Arrival Guarantee
Film the unopened bag as you first open it, shrimp visible, within 2 hours of delivery. Same guarantee as our graded stock — cull pricing doesn't mean cull treatment. Coverage depends on the shipping you choose: cash refund on Next Day Air, store credit on 2nd Day Air, and single shrimp are covered on Next Day Air only. See our refund policy for details.
Care Basics
Drip acclimate over 1–2 hours. No copper. Keep GH stable. Feed lightly.
Keep Them Separate
Yellow eye and orange eye are different mutations. Crossing them loses both. House orange eye and yellow eye culls in separate tanks.
Tank Mates
Good with: snails (nerite, mystery, rabbit, ramshorn) and Amano shrimp, which can't crossbreed with them. Small, calm fish such as otocinclus, pygmy corydoras and small rasboras usually leave adults alone. Avoid: bettas, gouramis, cichlids, loaches, puffers, crayfish and any fish big enough to fit a shrimp in its mouth. Almost every fish eats shrimplets, so a breeding colony does best in a shrimp-only tank. Other Neocaridina colors will crossbreed with them.
