The Plant
Anubias nana, or dwarf anubias, is one of the smallest anubias. It is native to Africa and farmed around the world. Its round green leaves grow to about 3 inches, and the plant stays under about 7 inches tall. It adapts to a wide range of water, which makes it a good first plant.
Plant Care
Type: Rhizome · Origin: Africa · Height: up to 7 in. · Light: Low · CO2: Not required · Temp: 75-82°F · pH: 6.8-7.8
Planting Tips
Tie or glue the rhizome to rock, driftwood or decor in the midground of a tank of 5 gallons or more. Keep the rhizome above the substrate. To make a new plant, cut the rhizome and attach the piece somewhere else.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The leaves give shrimplets and small fish shelter, and their surfaces collect biofilm for grazing. Shrimp leave it alone, and it grows slowly enough that it rarely needs trimming.
