The Snail
Thorn nerites (Clithon diadema), also called thorny hair nerites, have patterned shells with long spikes sticking out. The species comes in brown, green, tan, yellow and orange; this listing is the zebra form. The black and yellow spiral is the most striking color of the species. They are very active, spend most of the day looking for algae, and live about 1 year. You get 3 snails. Some shells may show small flaws.
Care
Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 7.4–8.0 · GH: 6–8 · KH: 2–12 · Tank: 5 gallons or more
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
They spend most of the day eating algae, and they also take algae wafers, invertebrate pellets, zucchini and dead plant matter. They are plant safe and very peaceful, so they leave shrimp alone. Never use copper.
Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp, other snails and peaceful community fish. Avoid: assassin snails, which hunt other snails, and fish big enough to eat them.
