Easy, peaceful grazer that also filter-feeds. Needs steady food and GH about 6 or higher for its shell; heavy enough to uproot thin-stemmed plants.

The Snail
This pack brings 3 striped wizard snails (Filopaludina sumatrensis polygramma), a trapdoor snail from Southeast Asia that is still uncommon in the US. The spiral shell is beige to light brown or yellowish with many thin parallel stripes, and adults reach about 1.5 to 2 inches. Most arrive at 0.5 to 1 inch. A hinged lid seals the shell when they feel threatened, and a few shells may show old marks.

Care
Temp: 50–82°F · pH: 7.4–8.0 · GH: 6–8 · KH: 2–12 · Tank: 10 gallons or more · Lifespan: Up to 5 years

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Slow and steady, they graze algae and leftovers at all hours without bothering shrimp, and they also suit ponds. They are heavy, though, and can uproot or snap thin-stemmed plants in a dense scape. Feed wafers, pellets or zucchini when algae runs low, and keep copper out of the tank.

Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp, other snails and peaceful fish, in tanks or ponds. Larger fish are fine once the snail is too big to fit in their mouths. Avoid: loaches, puffers, crayfish and large cichlids.
