Easy as a floater. Tied down as a carpet it needs strong light and CO2, and must be re-tied as it grows.

The Plant
Riccia fluitans, a small plant you can either let float at the surface or grow underwater as a low cushion, the way Takashi Amano made popular. Grown submerged it stays about 1 to 5 cm tall. Left floating, it gives young fish a place to hide.

Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.

Plant Care
Type: Moss
Origin: Cosmopolitan
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 3 to 5+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Medium
CO2: Medium

Planting Tips
To keep it down, tie it to a stone with fishing line. New growth points upward, so trim it back with scissors now and then. It grows best with added CO2, and tiny oxygen bubbles on the tips are a sign it's doing well.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Its dense tangle holds biofilm and fine food for shrimp to graze, and baby shrimp hide deep inside it.
