About
Pacific driftwood is the name for a style of wood, not one tree species. It is collected along Pacific coastlines and can be any of several hardwoods, worn by sun and tide into twisted, knotty forms that range from root tangles to flat, shelf-like branches. AquaticMotiv sandblasts and treats each piece and lists it as aquarium safe. No two pieces match.
Specs
Material: natural hardwood driftwood · Color: soft gray, brown or weathered tan; may darken a little in water · Texture: rugged, with cracks and knots
Using It
Scrub it under hot water, no soap, then soak it weighted for a few days with frequent water changes to sink it and draw out tannins. A 1 to 2 hour boil speeds this up. Still floating? Weight it or fix it to slate. Early white film is harmless and shrimp graze it away. Tie on anubias, java fern or moss.
