The Plant
Limnophila aquatica, a tall stem plant with light green, finely divided, feathery leaves. With added CO2 and a rich substrate the stems can reach 25 to 50 cm long and spread up to 15 cm wide. In an open-top tank it may grow past the surface and show small blue flowers.
Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.
Plant Care
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 10 to 20+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Medium
CO2: Medium
Planting Tips
Plant several stems together in a small group in the midground or background. Good light makes it branch sideways into a bushier plant. It's hardy, but fast growth needs added CO2 and a nutrient-rich substrate.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
Tall plants give shrimp a shady background to retreat to and take up waste that would otherwise feed algae.
