Easy carpet for low-tech tanks. Medium light and root tabs help it spread by runners.

The Plant
Sagittaria subulata, an easy foreground plant with grass-like leaves. It spreads by short runners into a compact group. Now and then it sends a long stem up to the surface and opens small white flowers above the water.

Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.

Plant Care
Type: Runner plant
Origin: South America
Height: 5 to 30+ cm (after about two months)
Light: 0.5 W/L
CO2: Medium

Planting Tips
Set the plants 2 to 4 cm apart. As it gets older it can suddenly shoot up to about 50 cm; moving it to the background may bring it back to low growth.

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
A dense patch traps biofilm and fine food for shrimp to graze, and shrimplets shelter between the leaves.
