Eleocharis acicularis
This item is provided by our friends at AquascapeGuide ↗ (opens in a new tab) (Price Matched)
The Plant
Eleocharis acicularis, the taller of the common hair grasses. Its fine blades spread by runners into a grassy meadow about 6 to 15 cm tall, so it makes a tall lawn rather than a tight carpet. It is widespread in nature and adapts to almost any aquarium.
Comes as a Tropica tissue culture cup: grown in lab gel, so it arrives free of snails, algae, pests and pesticides. Rinse off the gel and split it into small portions to plant.
Plant Care
Type: Runner plant
Origin: Cosmopolitan
Growth rate: Medium
Height: 10 to 15+ cm (after about two months)
Light: Low
CO2: Low
Planting Tips
Plant it in an open spot where taller plants won't shade it. If it grows taller than you like, trim it back carefully to the height you want. For a short carpet, the Mini variety stays lower.
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
The thick blades trap biofilm and fine food for shrimp to graze, and shrimplets hide among them.
