AquascapeGuide Snail Guard (Alum Dip)
This item is provided by our friends at AquascapeGuide ↗ (opens in a new tab) (Price Matched)
About
A ready-mixed alum dip for cleaning new plants before they go in your tank. It knocks off pest snails such as bladder and ramshorn snails, their jelly egg clutches and other hitchhikers, and it's gentler on leaves than bleach.
Specs
Mix: 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon of room-temperature water
Using It
Mix it in a clean bucket used only for this, then soak delicate plants (mosses, Bucephalandra, fine stem plants) for 3 to 5 minutes and hardy plants (Anubias, crypts, swords, sturdy stems) for 10 to 15 minutes, or up to 2 to 3 hours for a heavy pest load. Rinse well in fresh, dechlorinated water before planting. Tissue culture plants don't need it.
