Easy algae grazer. Needs algae or extra food, GH about 6 or higher for its shell, and a lid. Its eggs won't hatch in fresh water.

The Snail
Zig zag nerites have yellow-brown shells crossed with sharp, zigzagging stripes. They come from India and are among the harder nerites to track down. Like most nerites they are very hardy, cope with a broad range of water and stay busy at all hours. Shells are wild-collected and may have minor marks.

Care
Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 6.8–8.4 · GH: 6–8 · Tank: 10 gallons or more · Lifespan: Up to 4 years

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
They comb hardscape, glass and leaves for film algae, and will nose into gravel to reach more, all without touching shrimp or plants. Because their eggs only develop in brackish water, they never multiply in a shrimp tank. Give them algae wafers or zucchini if algae gets scarce, and keep copper out.

Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp of any size, other snails and peaceful nano or community fish. Avoid: loaches, puffers, crayfish, crabs and large cichlids, which eat snails. Assassin snails sometimes go after small nerites.
