Choose a Pack:
Easy algae grazer. Needs algae or extra food, GH about 6 or higher for its shell, and a lid. Its eggs won't hatch in fresh water.

The Snail
Zebra nerites have bold black and yellow stripes that wrap around the shell, and they are one of the best-known nerites in the hobby. They are tough snails that settle into a broad range of water and keep grazing at every hour, even digging into gravel to find algae. Shells are wild-collected and may show small flaws.

Care
Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 6.8–8.4 · GH: 6–8 · Tank: 10 gallons or more · Lifespan: Up to 4 years

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
A classic clean-up snail for shrimp tanks: it clears film and spot algae from glass, rock and leaves without harming plants or shrimp. You may see small white eggs on hardscape, but they need brackish water to hatch, so the snail count never climbs. Add wafers or zucchini when algae runs out, and keep copper out.

Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp of any size, other snails and peaceful nano or community fish. Avoid: loaches, puffers, crayfish, crabs and large cichlids, which eat snails. Assassin snails sometimes go after small nerites.
