The Snail
Olive nerites wear a plain, dark olive-green shell and come from India. They are tough grazers that cope with a broad range of water and keep working around the clock, even rooting through gravel when the glass is already clean. They also eat sinking pellets, soft dead leaves and blanched zucchini. Since they are collected from the wild, a few may show small shell marks. They can live up to about 4 years. Pick your pack size when you add to cart.
Care
Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 6.8–8.4 · Size: small · Tank: 10 gallons or more
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
They scrape film algae off glass, rock and leaves without harming healthy plants, and they never bother shrimp, even tiny shrimplets. Nerites do lay hard white eggs, but those eggs need brackish water to hatch, so they won't take over a freshwater tank. Keep GH around 6 to 8 for strong shells, and no copper medications.
Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp of any size, other snails and peaceful nano or community fish. Avoid: loaches, puffers, crayfish, crabs and large cichlids, which eat snails. Assassin snails sometimes go after small nerites.
