Needs lots of algae and biofilm plus hard water; helmet nerites can starve in new or very clean tanks. Eggs won't hatch in fresh water.

The Snail
Beluga helmet snails (Neritina sp.), also sold as white military helmet nerites, are named for a shell shaped like a beluga whale's head. Ours come from Indonesia. They tuck most of their foot under the shell but stay busy around the clock, scraping off algae and cleaning up scraps. Pick your pack size when you add to cart.

Care
Temp: 75–82°F · pH: 7.2–8.4 · GH: 6–8 · Tank: 10 gallons or more

Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
They are peaceful with shrimp, nano fish and other snails and won't touch healthy plants. Like other nerites they can't breed in freshwater, so the number you buy is the number you keep. Add pellets or blanched zucchini when algae runs low.

Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp of any size, other snails and peaceful nano or community fish. Avoid: loaches, puffers, crayfish, crabs and large cichlids, which eat snails. Assassin snails sometimes go after small nerites.
