The Snail
Blueberry snails (Viviparus sp.) are a newly discovered species from Papua New Guinea. The cone-shaped shell is brown to dark orange and grows a little over 1 inch, and the body is dark blue with bright orange speckles on the face. Mature males usually have a much thicker right antenna than females. They are almost always wild-caught and hard to import, so supply is limited. Most arrive at 0.25 to 0.75 inch. They live up to 3 years. Pick your pack size when you add to cart. Some shells may show small flaws.
Care
Temp: 72–82°F · pH: 7.5–7.8 · GH: 6–22 · KH: 3–15 · Tank: 5 gallons or more
Why Shrimp Keepers Like It
They are peaceful community snails that won't overpopulate: you need a male and a female to breed, and they have only 2 or 3 live babies every 3 weeks to a month. They filter-feed, so plan on a quality powdered food. They are easy to keep, but set up their tank before you buy. Never use copper.
Tank Mates
Good with: shrimp, other snails and peaceful community fish. Avoid: assassin snails, which hunt other snails, and fish big enough to eat them.
