OE Blue Demon Marbled Neocaridina shrimp

"OE" stands for orange eye. OE neos are Neocaridina davidi color lines with bright orange eyes in place of the usual dark eye. Put that eye on a deep blue body and you get the OE Blue Demon, the line our whole program at Moss & Molt is built around.

Where our OE Blue Demons come from

Our colony started from founder stock bought from RareShrimp.com and has been through roughly a year of hard culling here in Virginia Beach. Every shrimp we sell is bred in-house, never bought in and resold.

Out of that core colony we select two lines:

  • OE Blue Demon Marbled: a solid inky blue head and tail with a marbled dark blue body.
  • OE Blue Ink Demon: the darkest expression of the line, a saturated blue-black that is close to fully opaque from rostrum to tail.

How we grade

  • High Grade: the top of each selection.
  • Mid Grade: the line standard, with minor breaks in color or a lighter body.
  • Culls: orange eye Blue Demons that missed the body-color standard. Same orange eye, same genetics, a fraction of the price. They won't breed true to a color standard.

Color takes time

Juveniles darken as they mature. Expect visible deepening over the first 2 to 3 months, especially on females. Dark substrate and stable parameters bring color up; bare bottoms and swinging GH wash it out.

Keeping the line pure

All Neocaridina color lines interbreed. Orange eye and yellow eye are different mutations, and crossing them loses both. Keep OE neos in their own tank if you want offspring that look like the parents.

Water we keep them in

Temperature 74 to 76°F, pH 7.1 to 7.4, GH 7 to 8, KH 2 to 4, TDS 190 to 220. Neocaridina do well in remineralized RO or in tap water within those ranges. Match GH as closely as you can, and make sure the tank is fully cycled with ammonia and nitrite at 0 before shrimp go in.
